Opening concert of the Music Festival in the Philharmonie Berlin
usic is in the air when Berlin's concert life kicks off the new season with the Musikfest Berlin from August 27 to September 19, 2022. More than 50 compositions by around 40 composers will be performed in 27 concerts with a total of 33 orchestras, choirs and ensembles and over 20 international soloists who can be experienced at various locations. After a chamber music evening on August 27, Musikfest Berlin 2022 will open on August 28 with the Concertgebouworkest Amsterdam and Klaus Mäkelä in the Philharmonie with compositions by Kaija Saariaho and Gustav Mahler.
The festival program includes not only Beethoven, Mahler, Sibelius and concerts of the early modern period of the 20th century, but also compositions by Florence Price and Willem Pijper that have not yet been presented in Berlin, as well as rarities by Ferruccio Busoni, Bernd Alois Zimmermann, Morton Feldman and compositions by composers of our time.
In addition to Lisa Batiashvili and Igor Levit, Nicolas Altstaedt, Vilde Frang, Ilya Gringolts, Leonidas Kavakos, Pekka Kuusisto, Lawrence Power, Jörg Widmann and Wolfgang Ablinger-Sperrhacke, Lucy Crowe, Ann Hallenberg, Wolfgang Koch, Georg Nigl, Giovanni Sala, Ekaterina Semenchuk and William Thomas will perform as soloists. Magdalena Kožená and Yefim Bronfman will give a recital together.
